Why has my opportunity been rejected?

On occasion, we are not able to accept opportunities onto the platform because they do not meet our criteria. Here, you can find out more about the reasons why your role has not been accepted, how we apply our criteria, and some suggestions for alternative routes to finding volunteers.

Why does Reach reject certain opportunities?

Our purpose is to support not for profit organisations to connect with skills-based volunteers who can help them to fulfil their own missions. To ensure we fulfil that aim, we must focus on volunteer opportunities that are aimed at and require volunteers with at least three years of professional experience in one or more of our skills areas. We cannot accept roles that don’t meet this requirement.

Volunteers are awesome. Many organisations simply could not run without them, and we believe in the incredible impact that volunteering can have on society. When we reject opportunities, it is not a reflection on the importance of the opportunity itself, or the value of volunteers and we will endeavour to suggest alternative options to you.

Please note, we are not able to accept roles where no prior experience is required, including where full training is offered.

I have selected from the skills list on the online opportunity creation form, why has my role been rejected?

It is important that as well as selecting skills from the list we provide, that you clearly describe the experience you need and elaborate on why this experience is necessary for the role. Prospective volunteers will find your role based on the skills you select, but we ask that you add more detail to the person description, which will help potential applicants to understand if they are the right fit for the role and give them the motivation to apply.

Adding this level of detail also helps us to determine if your role meets our criteria, thus increasing the likelihood that it will be accepted.

I have asked for experience, why has my role been rejected?

If you have asked for experience, but we have rejected your role, it’s likely that your opportunity sits outside of the skill areas that we cover.

We are only able to accept opportunities that sit within our criteria, which includes a defined skills list. For example, you may need an experienced driver to help with community transport, but as driving is not a skill we cover, we would not be able to accept the role.

Are there any alternative online platforms where I can post my opportunity?

Absolutely. If we have not been able to post your role, we would encourage you to try alternative websites to Reach. Find out more about alternatives to Reach.
