Objectives

The Silk Heritage Trust runs Macclesfield's Museums - only culture & heritage service, the largest in Cheshire East, with a county-wide leadership role for heritage. The Trust is responsible for Europe’s largest collection of Jacquard silk handlooms in their original setting, a Designated Collection; the only Silk Museum in Northern England; plus the Heritage Centre, an impressive 18th century Sunday School, - transformed into centre for partner organisations providing creative learning for disabled & clinically vulnerable adults & young people; digital training; artists; & social enterprises. The local community has long valued our work preserving heritage, developing culture & creative engagement, & national & international visitors come for unique heritage experiences in Grade II listed buildings.

Activities

Macclesfield Museums aims to celebrate and share the extraordinary story of Macclesfield; a story of creativity, industry and enterprise. The Trust’s vision is to create an innovative and exciting museum and heritage offer, providing inspiring experiences for our visitors through our unique collections and remarkable heritage buildings.  We continuously strive to create greater access to our collections for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds both in person and online. We wish to not only protect, but also to develop our collections so that they can be easily accessible now and into the future. We work in partnership with schools, local organisations and groups providing learning opportunities to support creativity and wellbeing.
