Objectives

We are a small charity supporting breastfeeding women and their families by providing clear evidence-based non-judgemental information and support to women on feeding choices for their infants.

We work in 25 projects across England and Soctland and operate the National Breastfeeding Helpline (in a variety of langauges) and the Drugs In Breastmilk service.

We train breastfeeding supporters and offer help and advice to mums ante and post-natally often visiting them in hospitals and home visits.  We run drop in services in many areas and often work in deprived areas with low rates of breastfeeding.

Activities

We operate the National Breastfeeding Helpline (in association with ABM) which offers phone support to women and their families with feeding issues, we also offer this service via webchat which is very popular with younger mums and those who find speaking on the phone difficult.  We also offer telephone support in a number of languages.

We operate the Drugs In Breastmilk Service which provides information for mums and health professionals on which medications are safe for use while breastfeeding.

We have projects across England and Scotland offering 1-1 support and group support for mums and families.  We run courses for people wishing to be breastfeeding supporters, health professionals and those wanting to be more informed of the importance and value of breastfeeding - including business owners (cafes etc) who want to make feeding mothers welcome and need to know how to respond to potential criticism.
