Objectives

Our priorities:

  • To have a real impact on the ability of older people to live independent lives, support their own well-being and actively contribute to society.
  • To be inclusive and celebrate the diversity of Lambeth’s older people in all we do.
  • To reduce loneliness and social isolation.
  • To seek to build community cohesion in all we do.
  • To be sensitive and respectful in working with older people.

Activities

Lambeth Safe and Independent Living (SAIL) enables organisations and individuals working in the community to help people with problems outside their area of responsibility.

MYsocial is a social membership service. It's all about helping people discover friendships, socialise, connect with their community, and do things that make them happy!

We can assist with welfare benefits claims, housing issues, community care, general debt advice, utilities, consumer issues, tradespeople and services, transport, debt and social and leisure activities.

Our HandyFix team carries out minor repairs, improvements or adaptations to enable older people to maintain their independence and live in a warm, weather tight, safe and secure home.

Our Befriending Service is for older people who may feel socially isolated and lonely. Our main target client group is formed by the 40% of Lambeth residents (9,800) aged over 55 who live alone.

We focus on identifying and solving the practical problems that often hold up timely discharge of patients. Our Hospital 2 Home service helps older people to return home and stay supported after they have been in hospital.

We work with other organisations in Lambeth to generate benefits for older people through strengthening the community assets available to them.

At Age UK Lambeth we have a huge range of exciting volunteering opportunities available across the Lambeth borough. Our volunteers play a vital role in improving the wellbeing of a senior citizen.

Vida's, located in the heart of Brixton off Windrush Square, is fully accessible and has a hearing loop system. Its extensive programme offers a wide range of activities designed to help older people create and achieve goals for a happier life.
