Time

Either in or out of office hours Estimate of time needed:
0-5 hours / month, 1-3 hours / week or 3-7 hours / week
Short meetings once a month, otherwise working from home. Additional help with fundraising events appreciated but optional.

The Treasurer works closely with our other trustees, presents financial reports and organises quarterly transfers to our linked charity in India.

We estimate a minimum of 4 hours per month will be needed for this voluntary role

What will you be doing?

Following the resignation of our current treasurer from the role, due to ill health, we are looking for someone to replace him. The committee meet on a monthly basis, usually in Winnersh.

We are a small charity, supporting two Children’s Homes and providing educational support to students in Andhra Pradesh, S. India. We also support poor families, widows and the elderly. We raise money through sponsorship, regular and one-off donations, and fundraising events. Support with these events would be appreciated but is not essential to the role.  The Pandemic did affect our finances, and gaining enough funds to support all the projects remains a challenge.

We need someone who can communicate well with other trustees and keep them informed about the finances of the charity. They will need to look ahead to ensure we are on target to achieve the funds we need to keep the projects running.

What are we looking for?

The qualities and skills we are looking for in a new treasurer should include:

  • An understanding of finance is obviously important; understanding UK charity financial accounting would be beneficial.
  •  Previous experience of charity trusteeship or Committee membership would be welcome, but not required.
  • Experience of bookkeeping or similar financial record-keeping would also be very welcome.
  • You will need the ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees.
  •  You should have secure personal access to ICT and able to competently use those resources.

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is critical to SalGO Assist, making sure that the quarterly transfers get paid on time, ensuring we maximise our income through Gift Aid claims, leading the liaison with the External Examiner and keeping us on track financially.

As well as leading on financial management, you will help us with longer term planning for the future.

This is a key role in our charity, and your leadership and commitment will ensure that we can continue our support for the children in the two Children’s Homes, provide for their and other students education in the long term as well as preserving the support for the other much-needed projects that we provide funds for in Bapatla and surrounding areas.
