You'll ensure financial sustainability, enabling Migrant Women Press to provide a platform for migrant women to share their stories, challenge media narratives, and enhance diversity. 

 

What will you be doing?

Responsibilities:

As Treasurer of Migrant Women Press, you will play a vital role in managing the organisation's finances and supporting its operations. Your responsibilities will include financial management, ensuring compliance, helping secure funding, and delivering effective services. You will also serve as a financial advisor to board members who may need more understanding of financial matters.

Main Duties:

  • Lead all aspects of Migrant Women Press finances, including oversight of day-to-day financial operations and bookkeeping.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and handle bookkeeping tasks.
  • Manage routine income and expenditure activities.
  • Conduct financial planning and control, including cash flow management and budget forecasting.
  • Establish processes to ensure robust internal financial controls.
  • Advise the board and assist in decision-making based on the organization's financial status.
  • Develop financial strategies and manage risks for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and financial standards.
  • Support the budgeting process and assist in funding applications.
  • Actively participate in board discussions, contributing financial insights.
  • Regularly report to the board on the organization's financial health.
  • Oversee and present budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements to the board.
  • Monitor and advise on the charity's financial viability.
  • Provide financial advice on the organization's strategic planning.
  • Act as a counter-signatory on funding applications.
  • Prepare and approve annual reports and accounts.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Fully qualified chartered accountant / financial qualifications and experience 
  • Some experience in non-profit organisations' finances
  • The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
  • Being prepared to challenge and make unpopular recommendations to the board 
  • A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis on financial matters
  •  Good communication and people management skills
  • Teamwork

Your financial oversight and strategic planning will directly contribute to the organisation's growth and long-term stability, empowering it to reach a broader audience and make a lasting difference in the representation of migrant and diverse communities in the media. 

Additionally, by improving the financial literacy of the board, you will help strengthen the overall governance and effectiveness of Migrant Women Press, allowing it to deliver more impactful programs and services. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the future of the organisation and supporting the voices of migrant women to be heard and valued.
