How Reach works for organisations
Reach supports charities and non-profit social purpose organisations like yours, to connect with skills-based volunteers and trustees.
On this page you can learn about how the platform works, how to find volunteers, any costs attached, and the extra support available.
How does the platform work?
At Reach, we focus on trusteeship and skills-based volunteering (opportunities that require specific professional expertise in areas such as HR, digital or finance, to name a few).
By registering your organisation with us, you will be able to use Reach to post volunteer and trustee opportunities. You can search the platform for volunteers and suggest your opportunities to people who have the skills you need. You can manage all applications and questions via your dashboard.
Likewise, volunteers can use the platform to contact you to ask a question about your role, or make an application.
We review all organisations, opportunities and volunteers to make sure they meet our criteria, which is designed to support our focus on helping organisations find the expertise they need to help them thrive. You can read more about our criteria here.
We have designed the Reach platform with your needs in mind. We understand that volunteer and trustee recruitment takes time and resources, and so from sign up through to updating application outcomes, the platform will guide you through each step of the way. Here’s how it all works:
Step 1: Sign up and create your organisation profile
Create a username and password. After validating your email address you’ll be able to create an organisation profile. The organisation profile is designed so that you can introduce your organisation to volunteers, so use the space to explain the cause you're there to support, what you do and the amazing impact you have.
Step 2: Post your opportunity
Log into your Reach dashboard, and use the opportunity creation form to submit your role for our review. Once we’ve received it, the Reach team will review it to check it meets our criteria: this usually takes 1-3 working days. Once approved, we’ll publish your opportunity to Reach’s platform and send you an email to let you know. We’ll also share your role through our partners such as LinkedIn, Restless and Escape the City.
Step 3: Kickstart your search
Search for available volunteers on our platform and suggest your role to those who look like they may be a good fit. You can filter by skill area, availability, location and keywords.
Don’t forget to:
- Post your role on your social media channels.
- Ask your followers to share it with their networks.
- Share your role among your own networks.
- Add it to your newsletter.
Read our advice on how to generate applications.
Step 4: connect with volunteers and manage applications
Volunteers will be able to ask you questions, or apply for your role through Reach. We’ll let you know as soon as you receive an application, or if a volunteer has a question about your role.
You can view and respond to applications and queries through your dashboard.
Use the messaging threads to make contact with volunteers who apply and talk through what you’re looking for. Remember, with volunteers, a bit of flexibility is key!
Step 5: Make a placement
Once you have decided who you would like to place in the role, you can use the placement buttons in your dashboard to mark this and send the volunteer a message to confirm.
Likewise, if you decide not to place a volunteer, you can use the dashboard to update the volunteer. It is very important that all volunteers are updated on the outcomes of their applications.
P.S. during your recruitment, we will ask you to update us so that we know how things are going.
Is there a cost?
Reach Volunteering’s services are free or heavily subsidised thanks to the generosity of our funders, in line with our mission to bring people together to build a fair, sustainable and thriving society.
When there is a fee, our charges are per opportunity, and based on the service chosen and type of organisation. We only charge for trustee roles, and there is never a charge for volunteers.
Can Reach offer my organisation extra support to recruit trustees?
You can choose between three options:
1. Standard
Our standard option means you're in charge of your recruitment. Simply sign up your organisation and post your opportunity. You can also search our volunteer community and suggest your role to people who are a good match. You can then manage applications via your dashboard, and we'll ask you to pop back and update us with the outcome. If you need any support and guidance from the Reach Service Team, please do get in touch on [email protected]
This option is free or heavily subsidised: your organisation may be asked to pay a small fee, depending on your income and organisation type. Find out when and what we charge.
2. Enhanced
Our enhanced package includes all the elements of the standard option plus additional external advertising, a search of our community and social media promotion with the support of our expert team. This option is only available for trustee recruitment.
3. Bespoke trustee recruitment
TrusteeWorks, our expert team of consultants, offers a bespoke search service to find the ideal trustee for your board: excellent results at an affordable price. Find out more about TrusteeWorks.
