Objectives

Sailing Tectona provides sail training experiences for people of all ages from all backgrounds to inspire positive change in their lives. We have local  recovery charities we work with closely and we have clients from all across the UK; from disadvantaged youth groups, school pupils to Scouts and adults in recovery. The voyages are often life changing for those who take part whether it is learning outside the classroom, altering negative behaviour cycles or completing recovery from mental health issues to substance misuse - the power of a week at sea has lasting effects. We have evidence that the benefits ripple out beyond the individual and that friends and families feel the positive impacts too. The post voyage support we provide allows people the opportunity to talk with other crew members about their shared experience and how that relates to every day life, meet new people, gain further skills and  have a safe place to come to get the support they need as they move forward.

Activities

We provide week long and shorter residential sailing voyages where groups learn an array of new skills from learning to sail and navigate, to cooking, cleaning and living in close quarters. By nature of taking a boat sailing everyone works as a team and clear communication is key - this is why sail training is so effective to help individuals grow their self confidence, sense of purpose and belief in themselves to make positive changes in their lives. It is an organic process of self growth in a safe but challenging environment.
