Sailing Tectona is looking for a new trustee to join our friendly and committed Board at an exciting point in our journey. Based in the Southwest, we provide life-changing sail training voyages for young people and adults, including people in recovery from mental health issues and addiction.

What will you be doing?

We are seeking someone who can bring energy, judgement and practical experience to help strengthen Sailing Tectona for the future. You will work with fellow trustees, staff and volunteers to support good governance, strategic planning and sustainable growth, while helping us remain focused on the people and communities we serve.

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of Sailing Tectona.
  • Support strong governance, sound decision-making and responsible stewardship of resources.
  • Offer professional insight in one or more areas such as finance, fundraising, marketing, communications, sales, business development, charity governance or volunteer engagement.
  • Act as an ambassador for Sailing Tectona, helping to build relationships with partners, funders and the wider community.
  • Work collaboratively with a passionate team committed to inclusive, supportive and transformative sail training.

What are we looking for?

You do not need to be a sailor to become a trustee. We are interested in people who share our belief in the power of challenge and adventure at sea to help people grow. We would particularly welcome applicants with current experience in finance, fundraising, marketing, PR, sales, business management or organisational development.

What difference will you make?

Through sailing voyages on our traditional wooden vessel, Tectona, we help people build confidence, resilience, connections, communication skills and a renewed sense of possibility.

Our work uses the sea as a powerful setting for positive change. Life on board challenges people, encourages teamwork, and creates a supportive environment where participants discover strengths they may not have recognised in themselves. Alongside our sailing programmes, we also rely on volunteers and supporters to maintain and conserve our historic vessel so she can continue serving communities for years to come.

Before you apply

We would love to hear from you. To find out more or express your interest in becoming a trustee, please apply through the Reach website. We will then arrange an online informal interview, where we can discuss further.
