Quilombouk
Social enterprise
National - Britain
Our objectives
We partner with with cultural, social and sports organisations, and put on programmes of training, workshops and other events that promote unity and tolerance. We conduct research to challenge preconceptions around race and stereotyping/bias. Our findings are supported by educational opportunities designed to broaden perspectives. Encouraging different cultures to come together enables us to share and celebrate important lessons. The name Quilombo represents our charity because it reflects our mission to create a community of shared values and mutual respect.
Our activities
- A diversity game - this raises awareness of our biases, challenging us to think differently and can be delivered as a simple event activity or part of our Unconscious Bias Workshop.
- Treasure Hunt - this provides the opportunity to exchange the culture treasures while educating about diversity, traditions and beliefs. This is a service offered to schools, local governments and organisations.
- Community Campaigns - a social experiment and short documentaries raising awareness of the discrimination people can encounter because of particular characteristics such as religion, ethnicity or gender.
- Training and Workshops - our workshops create a safe environment for participants to debate the concept of bias and discuss how much it influences people without them even realising.
