The Wildlife Information Centre

Charity
National - Scotland

Our objectives

The Wildlife Information Centre (TWIC) is an environmental charity with an established reputation for excellence in the provision of biodiversity data within south-east and part of central Scotland. With 3.3 FTE staff, 6 directors plus volunteers, TWIC currently holds over 3 million species records as well as extensive habitats and designated sites information. Our programme of events supports new and existing recorders and stimulates interest in biological recording amongst the wider public.

Our activities

One of TWIC's core functions is to support recorders and to promote biological recording and the understanding of our natural heritage. We want to work with all recorders to help them with their recording work, communicate priorities for recording and encourage them to pass their data onto TWIC so that we can ensure that their data are widely used.

TWIC organises two conferences a year to bring together individuals interested in wildlife recording and conservation from across the region. A series of talks are delivered around a conference theme and there is a chance to promote local recording initiatives through displays and open-mike sessions.

We deliver a variety of workshops and talks to promote biological recording and encourage people to get involved/learn more.  We also attend various public events throughout the year to raise awareness of our work.
