Waltham Forest Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets
Our objectives
Waltham Forest Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets supports young people aged 10–18 from across Waltham Forest and the surrounding areas of North-East London. Our cadets come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and we aim to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where every young person can feel valued, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.
We help young people develop confidence, teamwork, leadership and practical life skills through structured training and positive role models. Many young people benefit from having access to safe activities, supportive mentors and opportunities that they may not otherwise experience. Our unit provides a place where cadets can build friendships, challenge themselves and learn skills that support their personal development, education and future careers.
Our work matters because many young people face pressures such as limited opportunities, low confidence or lack of positive structured activities outside school. Through our programmes, cadets learn discipline, responsibility and resilience while experiencing adventure and achievement. By investing in young people today, we help them grow into confident, capable and responsible members of their communities.
Our activities
Waltham Forest Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets delivers a structured programme of activities designed to develop young people through adventure, learning and teamwork.
Our core activities include maritime training such as sailing, rowing, kayaking and powerboating, giving cadets the opportunity to learn practical skills and build confidence on the water. We also provide seamanship, navigation and water safety training, alongside nationally recognised qualifications in areas such as first aid and leadership.
Cadets regularly take part in outdoor adventure activities including camping, fieldcraft, climbing and expedition training. The Royal Marines Cadets section focuses on physical fitness, resilience and teamwork through activities inspired by Royal Marines training.
In addition to practical training, cadets participate in community events, ceremonial activities and social programmes that encourage teamwork, communication and a strong sense of belonging. Our volunteers support young people through mentoring, leadership development and skill-based training.
Together, these activities help young people build confidence, develop life skills and discover new opportunities while having fun in a supportive and structured environment.
