Activities

Established in 2010, Settle Stories uses stories to connect people and help them make sense of the world. We bring high quality arts and training opportunities to the Yorkshire Dales. Working closely with our rural community we identify gaps in provision for all ages and abilities and uncover how we can use storytelling to impact people’s lives.

  1.  Regular events and a flagship festival.
  2. The W.R. Mitchell Archive - an online collection of Yorkshire stories where we preserve the vivid oral histories of the Yorkshire Dales in a digital library of recordings.
  3. A learning programme for schools, families and individuals that that develops skills and confidence in both adults and young people.

We celebrate difference and engage and learn from people from all backgrounds. We believe everyone should be treated equally and we work to ensure that no member of staff, volunteers, participants or audience is discriminated against because of age, gender, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ethnicity or religion.

We engage with a diverse range of volunteers. They are the lifeblood of the organisation. Our ‘Young People’s Action Group’ provides a platform for young people to connect and influence our work.

We use a range of delivery methods that encourages access depending on client groups and we have a strong track record of partnerships. We’ve recently completed a successful collaboration called ‘Technology Together’ with Age UK, where young people helped older people get online and share and discover local stories.
