Our objectives
The Quran Group is a UK Community Interest Company providing free live online Islamic education to over 500 students across six continents.
We support Muslims who cannot otherwise access quality Islamic education. That includes students in countries where there are no local scholars to learn from, people who cannot afford the fees that private academies charge, women and girls who cannot easily attend in person, and adults who never had the chance to learn as children and assume it is now too late. Some of our students are in places we have never been to, learning from teachers several time zones away.
We help them by removing the two barriers that usually stand in the way: cost and access. Every class is free, taught live by qualified scholars and huffaz, on a timetable built to work across different time zones. Students learn to read the Quran, memorise it, study tajweed, and understand its meaning, alongside Arabic, Seerah and Fiqh. They learn in a structured programme with real teachers who know them, not a library of recordings.
Why it matters: for many of our students there is no other realistic route to this education. The choice is not between us and a cheaper option, it is between us and nothing. A student in a country with no scholars, or a family that cannot spare the money, would otherwise go without. Keeping it free is not a feature of what we do, it is the whole point. Every class has always been free, and it always will be.
Our activities
We run free live online classes six days a week, taught by a team of 17 volunteer scholars and huffaz.
Our teaching covers the core areas of Quranic and Islamic study: learning to read, hifdh (memorisation), tajweed (correct recitation), and tafsir (meaning), alongside Arabic grammar, Seerah and Fiqh. Classes are live and interactive, so students are taught by a teacher who tracks their progress, not left with recordings to work through alone. Some students are taught one to one where they need it, including a blind student we taught daily for a year.
We built and run the platform ourselves. Students apply, enrol and join their classes through it, and the whole system was designed and coded in-house so we are not paying for software that would eat into what we can offer for free.
We are now building two further programmes: the Sannatayn, a free two-year foundation in Islamic studies designed with qualified scholars, and a live Alim class, a subsidised route into deeper Islamic scholarship. Both keep to the same principle, that no one is turned away because they cannot pay.
We are funded by donations rather than student fees. During Ramadan 2026 we raised £7,000 in a week from over 150 donors, which keeps the classes running and free.
