The Hub @ Toothill Community Interest Company
Our objectives
About The Hub @ Toothill CIC
The Hub @ Toothill CIC is a community-led, non-profit organisation established as the legacy of the Toothill Big Local partnership and the £1 million lottery grant awarded to its residents. Our purpose is to place the community at the heart of everything we do by transforming the former Village Tavern, the historic "Toot and Whistle," into a vibrant, inclusive family hub. By reclaiming this central landmark, we are creating a safe and accessible space where residents of all ages can connect through social gatherings, arts, culture, and wellbeing support.
Our mission is to work with the community, not just for it, co-creating services and opportunities that strengthen local resilience and pride. Guided by a "Ladder of Community Participation," we prioritise shared leadership and active listening to ensure our strategy reflects what matters most to Toothill.
While the Hub is not yet fully operational due to delays caused by previous contractor issues, we are preparing to launch a wide range of community-led services. These will include a daytime café, family-friendly pub, inclusive events, creative workshops, learning opportunities, wellbeing support, and flexible spaces for local groups and partner organisations. All activities will be co-designed with residents to ensure they meet real community needs.
We are also seeking volunteers to support key areas such as fundraising, social media management, and content creation, helping us raise awareness, engage the community, and generate sustainable income to deliver our programmes.
As we move toward our defined roadmap for 2026, we are seeking Board members with integrity and ambition to oversee this once-in-a-generation revitalisation project, ensuring the Hub’s services are delivered successfully and that all surplus income continues to be reinvested into the neighbourhood for generations to come.
Our activities
What activities will we offer?
We are preparing The Hub @ Toothill to meet building control requirements so it can safely open as a vibrant, community-led space. This includes essential finishing work delivered by specialist tradespeople, supported by volunteers helping with fundraising, promotion, and co-design.
Our vision for the Hub has been co-created with the community — informed by over 100 surveys, consultations, and door-knocking campaigns — ensuring that the services we offer reflect local priorities, needs, and aspirations.
Once open, The Hub will host inclusive family events, offer flexible spaces for hire, create learning opportunities (including apprenticeships), and deliver tailored support services co-produced with residents and partner organisations. The Pub @ the Hub will retain the historic Toot and Whistle bar, celebrating neighbourhood heritage while providing a modern, welcoming space for connection, wellbeing, and community pride.
We will also co-design intergenerational services with the community, including:
- Arts and culture – at the heart of our programme, from performances, exhibitions, and workshops to opportunities for residents and local artists to showcase creativity and celebrate Toothill’s diverse identity.
- Community leadership – creating space for residents to lead their own projects and groups.
- Health and wellbeing – including social lunch clubs to support older adults experiencing isolation and loneliness.
- Learning and development – employability support, career mentoring, and volunteer and career opportunities.
Through volunteering, ongoing surveys, and strong partnerships, The Hub @ Toothill will become a catalyst for connection, creativity, and opportunity, building a stronger, more inclusive neighbourhood for all while ensuring the community continues to shape its future.
