Camara Education
Our objectives
Camara uses technology to improve education in the world’s poorest countries. By doing this, we give these students the tools and opportunity to make a better life for themselves, their families and their communities.
Our activities
Camara is an international charity delivering scalable, sustainable education solutions across Africa.
We work with Ministries of Education and partners to bring digital and AI-enabled learning into classrooms – improving how teachers teach and how students learn, even in low-connectivity environments.
Through our network of locally led Education Hubs – social enterprises operating in partnership with national education systems – we equip schools with appropriate technology, deploy curriculum-aligned software and offline AI tools, and train teachers to confidently integrate these into everyday teaching.
We partner with organisations to repurpose surplus IT equipment, unlocking its value to fund and equip Digital Learning Centres in underserved schools. Combined with ongoing teacher support, system maintenance, and responsible end-of-life recycling, this creates a sustainable, circular model for expanding access to AI-enabled education.
Camara uses a social enterprise model, working through its own educational support hubs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia.
To date, Camara has set up computer labs in over 13,000 low income schools, training 70,000 teachers how to use the labs to improve the quality of the education received by their students. In total, nearly 5 million of the world’s poorest children have been positively impacted by this work.
