Our objectives

BioSci Toolkit exists to help students make informed choices regarding bioscience degrees and careers, in particular black and minority ethnic communities.

The objectives: 

  1. To draw attention to employability opportunities in the bioscience field 
  2. To mobilise a diverse workforce to fill vacancies in the research sector, academia and industry
  3. To initiate interest in bioscience in young people earlier on and spotlight the applicability of biosciences

Our activities

Skills workshops

  • General skills to support university transition e.g. time management, note-taking, how to do a literature search etc
  • Science communication
  • Lab report writing

Career talks

  • We visit colleges and university careers fairs to talk about our services and career opportunities in the bioscience field

Educational resources

  •  These are for students to guide them in developing core skills and knowledge to promote student success and feed into employability in the bioscience sector

Highlight Career profiles of bioscience professionals from diverse backgrounds

- We showcase career portfolios of men and women from diverse backgrounds who have studied a bioscience degree, so students can see visible role models currently in the field

Current opportunities

  • Are you passionate about making science feel fun, accessible, and culturally rich? We are seeking imaginative creative storytellers to craft content that captures science in a way that is authentically relevant and meaningful to Black, Mixed, and Global Majority audiences. 

  • We are looking for an organised, person-centred and strategic leader to oversee and manage the BioSci Future Leaders Mentorship Scheme. This crucial initiative connects aspiring scientists from black, mixed and global majority backgrounds with industry and academic professionals.
