Volunteer Social Media Manager

Closed
Remote
1-3 hours / week

We Are Here is a UK charity building an offline-accessible Google-style map helping people at risk of homelessness quickly find nearby support. We’re looking for a Volunteer Social Media Manager to help tell our story and build awareness as we run pilots with frontline organisations.

What will you be doing?

We Are Here is a fully volunteer-powered team of around 15 people bringing together expertise across multiple sectors.

Our team includes professionals working across the tech, social impact, corporate, legal and finance sectors, united by a shared commitment to improving access to support for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

As the project enters its pilot phase, visibility and storytelling are becoming increasingly important to help build awareness, strengthen partnerships and support future funding and impact.

We are therefore looking for a Volunteer Social Media Manager to help us maintain a thoughtful and consistent presence online (primarily on LinkedIn).

The role will involve:

• Drafting and publishing approximately one original post per week from our LinkedIn page
Engaging with comments on posts where appropriate
Reposting or commenting on relevant partner or sector content
• Helping identify stories, ideas and strategies that help communicate the project’s mission and progress publicly

The Social Media Manager will work closely with Sarah Flambard (Founder & Trustee) for content ideas and review, and will sit within the Marketing & Communications team led by Justine Riboulet (Head of Marketing).

This is a light commitment of around 2 hours per week, and the role would suit someone interested in communications, storytelling or social impact who would enjoy contributing to a meaningful project at an early stage of its development.

What are we looking for?

We are primarily looking for someone who communicates with energy, belief, warmth, empathy and good judgment.

This role would suit someone who enjoys translating meaningful work into clear and engaging stories, and who understands the importance of communicating about sensitive social issues with care and respect.

Helpful qualities and experience include:

• Strong writing and communication skills
• Interest in social impact, homelessness or digital inclusion
• Experience using social media platforms (particularly LinkedIn)
• Ability to identify interesting stories or updates that help explain a project’s mission and progress
• Reliability and ability to work independently with light guidance

Professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, social media content management would be welcome.

What however matters most is a thoughtful and impactful approach to storytelling and an interest in contributing to a mission-driven project.

What difference will you make?

This role will play an important part in helping We Are Here grow awareness and credibility as we test and refine the platform with organisations across the homelessness sector.

While the technology we are building aims to improve how people navigate support services, visibility and clear storytelling are essential for the project to reach the organisations, funders and communities who can help it grow.

By helping us communicate our work consistently and thoughtfully, the Volunteer Social Media Manager will contribute to:

Raising awareness of hidden homelessness and barriers to accessing support
Highlighting the work of frontline organisations supporting people in crisis
Sharing insights and learnings from our pilot partnerships
Building trust with potential partners, supporters and funders.

Because We Are Here is a fully volunteer-led initiative at this stage, contributions like this play a meaningful role in helping the organisation grow sustainably.

The volunteer will therefore directly support our ability to build partnerships, expand the platform and ultimately help more people find support when they need it most.

Before you apply

"Thank you for your interest in supporting We Are Here.

If you decide to apply, it would be helpful if you could include a short note explaining why the project interests you and any relevant experience you may have in communications, storytelling or social media.

As our pilot phase with partner organisations is starting this month, visibility and storytelling will play an important role in sharing the progress of the project. We are therefore keen to move through the recruitment process relatively quickly.

After reviewing applications, we will invite shortlisted candidates to a short informal video conversation (around 30 minutes) to discuss the role, answer questions and see whether the opportunity feels like a good fit for both sides.

We aim to review applications on a rolling basis and will try to respond to all applicants within 1–2 weeks.

Our goal is to keep the process simple and respectful of everyone’s time.
