We Are Here (Map)
Our objectives
We Are Here exists to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness, hidden homelessness, or those at risk of becoming homeless in the UK. This includes people in temporary accommodation, sofa-surfing situations, overcrowded housing, or facing imminent housing insecurity - communities that are often overlooked and underrepresented in traditional homelessness services.
We help by developing a free, offline-accessible digital tool that maps essential local services, including food banks, shelters, hygiene facilities, legal, immigration and administrative advice, mental health and substance abuse support, and more. The tool is being co-designed with people with lived experience and grassroots organisations to ensure it is practical, inclusive, and human-centred.
Our impact lies in making life-saving support easier to find and access - especially for those in the most precarious and disconnected situations. By improving the visibility of existing resources and reducing digital barriers to access, we aim to strengthen the ecosystem of frontline services, empower individuals to seek help earlier, and contribute to more coordinated, community-led responses to homelessness.
Our activities
To meet our objectives, We Are Here is building the foundations of a free, offline-accessible digital tool that connects individuals at risk of homelessness to essential services.
Our key activities include:
- Co-designing the platform with individuals who have lived experience of homelessness, alongside grassroots service providers, to ensure the tool is practical, trauma-informed, and responsive to real-world needs
- Mapping and verifying essential local services - including shelters, food banks, legal advice, mental health and medical support - through partnerships with community organisations
- Establishing strategic collaborations with tech-for-good networks, local authorities, charities, and advocacy groups to support long-term sustainability and reach
- Raising awareness and actively contributing to sector dialogue, including participation in cross-sector workshops, partner-led events, and working groups
- Building a values-driven volunteer team with skills across data, tech, design, communications, social impact, finance and strategy to collaboratively deliver on our mission
We are currently entering our pilot phase with frontline organisations, while continuing to strengthen the underlying technology, partnerships, and communication of our work and impact to support sustainable scale and wider awareness.
