Volunteer Legal Director

This is a key role in sustaining and growing Turtle Dove Cambridge’s reach and impact. We’re a small team working hard to engage, empower and build confidence in young women aged 14–24 who are or are at risk of being NEET. This position is restricted to women applicants only.

 

What will you be doing?

As a voluntary legal director, you will provide strategic oversight and guidance on legal, compliance and governance matters.

You will support the organisation in meeting its statutory obligations and ensuring best practice across all areas of operation.

We have an experienced Board of Directors who are jointly responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Community Interest Company, its financial health, its activities, and the development of the organisation’s aims, mission, objectives and goals.

About you

  • Legal background or relevant professional experience 
  • Understanding of governance, compliance and risk management 
  • Knowledge of charity/CIC law or willingness to learn (desirable) 
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail 
  • Ability to provide clear, practical advice to a non-legal audience 
  • Self-motivated and proactive 
  • Commitment to Turtle Dove’s purpose and values

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on legal and regulatory compliance (e.g. Companies House, HMRC, GDPR, safeguarding) 
  • Support the development and review of organisational policies and procedures 
  • Advise on contracts, agreements and partnerships 
  • Identify and help mitigate legal and organisational risk 
  • Support the board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and director duties 
  • Ensure the organisation operates in line with relevant legislation and best practice 
  • Provide advice on governance structures and decision-making processes 
  • Prepare and present legal/governance updates to the board
