We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join the Board of Trustees of Swindon Food Collective, the local food bank supporting people experiencing financial hardship and struggling to provide food and other essential items for themselves and their families.

What will you be doing?

We’re an independent food bank based in Swindon currently feeding circa 10,000 people per year, one third of whom are children. We receive donations of food, toiletries and household items from members of the public as well as churches, schools, local companies, community groups and supermarkets. The goods go to our warehouse, where they are sorted and packed into food boxes for delivery to our 12 distribution centres across the town and beyond. We work with a large number of local organisations who can refer individuals and families in need, and along with the food and essentials, we aim to provide a friendly welcome and signposting to other local agencies for further help.

We’re now looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board at a pivotal moment for the organisation. As we prepare our new three-year strategy and respond to rising demand, your insight and leadership will help shape the future of food poverty relief across Swindon & North Wiltshire.

What are we looking for?

Who we’re looking for

We are particularly looking for people with professional or commercial experience in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Finance
  • HR

But above all, we’re looking for people who share our values - compassion, purpose, inclusivity and collaboration - and who want to make a meaningful difference.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are keen to build a more ethnically and socially diverse Board to ensure we fully represent our community.

Whether you’re an experienced trustee or stepping into governance for the first time, we’ll support you with a structured induction and support.

What you’ll do

As a Trustee, you’ll help steer the strategic direction of the charity, support our CEO and senior team, and ensure we remain financially resilient and fit for the future.
You’ll bring your expertise, your curiosity and your commitment to helping us deal with the growing food poverty issues across our region.

Time commitment:

  • Six Board meetings a year
  • One annual Awayday
  • Sub-committee involvement
  • Occasional events and ad hoc discussions

This is a voluntary role; reasonable expenses are covered.

What difference will you make?

Our services are needed now more than ever and as a Trustee, you will make a real difference to your local community. By bringing your expertise and commitment you will help to shape our future direction and sustainability and ensure that we continue to provide vital support to individuals and families in Swindon with dignity and respect.
