Trustee with Legal experience
Sage Counselling supports people with mobility issues who need counselling in Sussex. After 25 years as a charity the trustees have decided to incorporate the charity as a CIO. We are seeking a new trustee with legal experience to help the board meet relevant compliance requirements.
What will you be doing?
As a trustee you’ll have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Sage Counselling, making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people.
This year we’re going to make some important decisions about funding and the future expansion of our counselling services, and the board will be leading that change. A fantastic programme of publicity and fundraising is being put in place by a dedicated subcommittee of trustees to help us meet our targets.
The board has a close relationship with our operations team, who are responsible for delivering our services to as many clients as possible.
What are we looking for?
The role will suit someone with expertise in governance, compliance, and risk management. They should have integrity, objectivity and be proactive so that they can provide independent judgement. Previous experience of providing strategic oversight on disputes and complaints that could lead to legal action would be invaluable in this role. An understanding of the need for robust policies on safeguarding, whistleblowing, data protection, and conflicts of interest would also be useful.
What difference will you make?
A trustee with a legal background, whether in practice or in business, will help ensure the smooth operation of our services. There will be challenges for the board moving the charity to an incorporated CIO. Your experience will be invaluable in highlighting potential issues connected with the provision of services to vulnerable people in the community.
