Join us as Support Lead for Evening Light, helping guide volunteers and create a warm, safe space for people facing homelessness. Your experience will help us run sessions smoothly, support guests with dignity and shape the development of this new community initiative.

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for someone who can confidently lead our volunteer team during each session, support guests with compassion, and help maintain a safe and inclusive environment.

You’ll welcome attendees, offer supportive conversation, guide volunteers when they need reassurance, and help manage the flow of the evening.

You’ll also use your experience to identify when someone may need extra support and communicate this to Aspire staff. Your insight will help us refine our approach, strengthen our boundaries and ensure the project grows in a thoughtful, trauma‑informed way.

What are we looking for?

Qualities:

  • Calm, grounded and compassionate when supporting vulnerable adults
  • Non‑judgemental, patient and able to build trust quickly
  • Confident leading small teams and offering gentle guidance
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Reliable, consistent and able to maintain clear boundaries
  • Able to stay steady if someone is distressed or anxious

Experience:

  • At least 3 years experience supporting people facing homelessness, rough sleeping or housing insecurity
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and safe, respectful engagement
  • Ability to recognise when someone may need additional support and escalate appropriately

What difference will you make?

Your leadership will be central to the success of Evening Light. By bringing experience, steadiness and understanding, you’ll help us build a service that is safe, compassionate and genuinely responsive to the needs of people facing homelessness.

Your guidance will support volunteers to feel confident in their roles, reduce risks, and ensure guests receive consistent, respectful care. As the project grows, your insight will help Aspire Skills Development CIC develop best practice, strengthen community relationships and expand our impact across the local area.

In short, your contribution will shape the quality, safety and long‑term success of this initiative.

Before you apply

We’ll review applications as they come in and are especially keen to hear from volunteers with experience supporting people facing homelessness or working in community support settings. When you apply, please include a short message explaining why the role interests you and any relevant experience you feel comfortable sharing.

Shortlisted volunteers will be invited to a brief, friendly online or phone interview between 24th - 28th April. We’ll contact you as soon as possible after receiving your application, as our first Evening Light session is planned for 29th April, and we hope to have our volunteer team in place before then.

If you have any questions before applying, feel free to get in touch — we’re happy to help.
