Social Media Volunteer
We work with people in prisons, probation and recovery to break cycles of trauma and addiction. We need a creative social media volunteer to help us tell that story on LinkedIn, TikTok and Facebook. Just 1 hour a week, but a huge difference to our reach.
What will you be doing?
ABOUT THE ARUKAH PROJECT
The Arukah Project C.I.C. is a trauma-informed organisation working with people in prisons, probation services, recovery programmes, and vulnerable communities across the UK. We raise awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and deliver evidence-based interventions — including Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) — to help people break cycles of reoffending, addiction, and trauma.
Our mission is to empower vulnerable people to make a positive difference in their own lives. Our vision is a world where everyone understands the lasting impact of childhood trauma and is equipped to create positive, lasting change.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a small, dedicated team doing important work — but our social media presence does not yet reflect the depth and impact of what we do. We are looking for a creative, self-motivated social media volunteer to help us show up consistently and compellingly on LinkedIn, TikTok, and Facebook.
This is an ongoing, remote role requiring approximately one hour per week, structured flexibly around your schedule.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
— Creating or helping to shape engaging posts for LinkedIn, TikTok, and Facebook
— Adapting our content and messaging for each platform's audience and tone
— Suggesting ideas for content themes, awareness days, and campaigns relevant to our work
— Helping us develop a simple, consistent content rhythm we can sustain as a small team
— Occasionally reviewing and giving feedback on posts drafted by the team
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
— Practical experience managing or creating content for LinkedIn, TikTok, and/or Facebook
— An understanding of what works on each platform — tone, format, timing, and audience
— Strong written communication skills and an instinct for authentic, human storytelling
— Sensitivity to the communities we work with — our content must always be dignified and empowering, never exploitative
— Ability to work independently and contribute ideas proactively
Nice to have: experience using Canva or a similar design tools
What are we looking for?
Our ideal volunteer is a confident, creative social media user who understands how to communicate authentically across different platforms, and who cares about using those skills for genuine social good.
The most important qualities are a strong instinct for storytelling, sensitivity to the communities we work with, and the ability to work independently without needing close direction. Because we work with vulnerable people, those in prison, probation, and recovery, our content must always be handled with care. We are looking for someone who understands the difference between raising awareness powerfully and sensationalising difficult lives.
Essential skills and experience:
— Practical experience creating or managing content on LinkedIn, TikTok, and/or Facebook
— Strong written communication skills and a natural feel for tone and voice
— An understanding of what works on each platform in terms of format, length, and audience
— Sensitivity, discretion, and sound judgement when handling content about vulnerable people
— Self-motivation and the ability to contribute consistently with minimal oversight
Useful but not essential:
— Experience using Canva or similar design tools for creating visual content
— Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Buffer or Hootsuite
— Previous experience working with or volunteering for a charity, CIC, or social impact organisation
— Knowledge of the trauma, addiction, justice, or recovery sectors
What difference will you make?
Most people have never heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Most people do not know that the way a child is treated in their earliest years can shape their brain, their behaviour, and their life chances for decades to come. Most people do not know that the person in a prison cell, or in a probation appointment, or rough sleeping in a doorway, is very often someone whose childhood was defined by abuse, neglect, or violence — and who never received the support they needed to process it.
The Arukah Project exists to change that — and social media is one of the most powerful tools we have to do it.
Every post we publish is an opportunity to shift understanding. To reach a commissioner who has never considered trauma-informed commissioning. To connect with a practitioner burning out on the frontline who has never heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences. To give hope to someone in recovery who suddenly recognises their own story in what we share. To make the case to a funder that what we do is evidence-based, credible, and worth investing in.
But we are a small team. Our capacity to show up consistently online, to post regularly, to engage authentically, to build the kind of presence that opens doors, is limited by the demands of delivery. That is where you come in.
One hour a week does not sound like much. But done consistently and done well, it compounds. A steady stream of thoughtful, well-crafted content builds an audience. An audience builds credibility. Credibility attracts partners, funders, and commissioners. Partners, funders, and commissioners enable us to reach more people, people in cells, in recovery houses, in probation appointments, and give them the tools to build a different kind of life.
The volunteer we are looking for does not need to know anything about trauma or the justice system when they start. They need to be curious, creative, and care about using their skills for something that matters. We will give them all the context they need about our work, our values, and the communities we serve.
In return, they will be amplifying some of the most important and underheard voices in the country, and helping an organisation that refuses to give up on people that much of society already has.
