What will you be doing?

The volunteer opportunity at MMARAP (Mixed Martial Arts for Reform and Progression) provides a valuable chance to gain practical experience while contributing to a meaningful cause within the London community.

As a Social Media Assistant, you would support the charity’s mission of empowering young people through mixed martial arts, mentoring, and personal development by helping to grow and maintain its digital presence.

In this role, you would be responsible for creating, editing, and scheduling engaging content across key platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter). This may include capturing photos and videos during training sessions, editing short-form content, writing compelling captions, and posting updates that highlight the organisation’s activities. You would play an important role in showcasing the positive impact MMARAP has on young people, including their progress, achievements, and personal growth.

You would also help promote upcoming sessions, workshops, and community events, ensuring that participants and supporters are well-informed and engaged. By contributing to content planning and staying up to date with social media trends, you would help the charity remain relevant and appealing to a wider audience. Additionally, you may assist in monitoring engagement metrics and analytics to understand what content performs best, helping to refine future strategies.

Another key aspect of the role involves interacting with the online community. Responding to comments, messages, and engaging with followers helps build trust and encourages a sense of connection. This is especially important for a community-focused organisation like MMARAP, where inclusivity, encouragement, and support are central values.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in social media, marketing, sports, or community outreach. It allows you to develop transferable skills such as content creation, video editing, communication, and digital strategy. You will also gain insight into how a grassroots charity operates, including how it engages its audience and promotes its services effectively.

Volunteering with MMARAP is not only beneficial for professional development but also personally rewarding. You will be contributing to an organisation that uses sport as a tool to inspire confidence, discipline, and resilience in young people, many of whom may face social or economic challenges. By helping to share their stories and amplify their voices, you play a part in making a real difference.

Overall, this role offers a strong balance of skill-building and community impact. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to enhance their experience, build a portfolio, and support a positive initiative that creates lasting change through sport and mentorship.

What are we looking for?

MMARAP is looking for a passionate, reliable, and creative individual to join as a Social Media Assistant volunteer. The ideal volunteer is someone who not only has an interest in social media and content creation, but also genuinely cares about making a positive impact in the community. A strong alignment with MMARAP’s mission—supporting young people through mixed martial arts, mentoring, and personal development—is essential.

One of the most important qualities is creativity. The volunteer should be able to generate engaging ideas for content that captures attention and reflects the energy and purpose of MMARAP. This includes creating short-form videos, taking photos, and writing compelling captions that tell real stories. An understanding of current social media trends, particularly on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, is highly valuable, as it allows the volunteer to produce content that resonates with a younger audience.

Communication skills are also key. The volunteer should feel confident writing clear and engaging posts, as well as interacting with followers in a friendly and professional manner. Responding to comments and messages, and helping to build a positive online community, is an important part of the role. Strong communication also helps when working alongside coaches, participants, and other volunteers to capture content and share updates.

The ideal candidate should be reliable and organised. Consistency is crucial in social media, so the volunteer must be able to stick to a posting schedule, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively. Being proactive and able to work independently is important, while also being open to feedback and collaboration.

In terms of experience, prior involvement in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing is essential. What matters most is a willingness to learn and a genuine enthusiasm for the role. Basic skills in video editing (using tools like CapCut or similar apps), photography, and content planning would be highly advantageous. Experience with analytics or insights tools is a bonus, as it can help improve content performance over time.

An interest in sports, particularly MMA, or experience working with young people or within community organisations, would also be valuable. This helps the volunteer better understand the environment, the audience, and the type of content that will be most impactful. However, more important than specific experience is a positive attitude, empathy, and a commitment to inclusivity and respect.

Ultimately, MMARAP is looking for someone who is motivated, adaptable, and eager to contribute. This is a role for someone who wants to build their skills while making a difference—helping to amplify voices, share inspiring stories, and support a charity that is changing lives through sport.

What difference will you make?

A Social Media Assistant volunteer would play a crucial role in supporting MMARAP’s growth, visibility, and overall impact within the London community. By strengthening the charity’s online presence, this role directly contributes to raising awareness of its mission—using mixed martial arts as a tool for reform, progression, and youth development.

One of the most important ways this role helps MMARAP is through consistent and engaging content creation. By capturing training sessions, events, and participant stories, the Social Media Assistant helps showcase the real-life impact of the organisation. This kind of authentic storytelling not only highlights the achievements of young people involved but also builds trust and credibility with the wider public. It allows potential participants, parents, and supporters to clearly see the value of the programmes being offered.

In addition, the role supports the promotion of classes, workshops, and special events. Effective social media promotion can significantly increase attendance and participation, ensuring that more young people are able to access MMARAP’s services. By reaching a broader audience, the charity can expand its community and create more opportunities for those who may benefit from structured training and mentorship.

The Social Media Assistant also contributes to community engagement. By responding to comments, messages, and interacting with followers, they help create a welcoming and inclusive online environment. This engagement strengthens relationships with current participants while also attracting new ones. A strong digital community reflects the supportive atmosphere MMARAP aims to provide in person.

Another key benefit is increased opportunities for funding and partnerships. A well-managed social media presence makes the organisation more appealing to potential sponsors, donors, and collaborators. By presenting a professional and active online profile, MMARAP can demonstrate its impact more effectively, which is often essential when applying for grants or forming partnerships with local organisations and businesses.

Furthermore, the role helps MMARAP stay relevant in a fast-moving digital landscape. By keeping up with trends, creating modern content formats, and analysing performance metrics, the Social Media Assistant ensures that the charity continues to reach younger audiences effectively. This is particularly important given that the target audience is often active on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

Overall, this role supports MMARAP by increasing awareness, improving engagement, and expanding its reach. It helps the organisation connect with more young people, secure additional support, and continue delivering positive change through sport.
