We’re growing, and we need your expertise! Our mission is simple: ensuring every child has the essentials they need to succeed. To help us reach even more families, we are expanding our Board of Trustees and looking for strategic leaders from diverse professional backgrounds.

What will you be doing?

We are a small charity currently with 5 trustees. We are looking to expand our board to bring on more expertise.

We are currently seeking Trustees who can offer specific "Lead Trustee" support in one of the following areas:

  • Legal: Advising on contracts, liability, and governance structures.
  • Finance/Accounting: Overseeing budgets, annual accounts, and financial reporting.
  • HR: Advising on volunteer management, recruitment, and employment law.
  • Marketing & Events: Guiding our public image and community fundraising strategy.
  • Grant Writing: Identifying funding streams and reviewing high-value applications.

Experience:

  • Professional experience in one of our Specialist Advisory Areas (listed above).
  • Note: Prior experience as a Trustee is NOT required; we welcome first-time Trustees and will provide induction.

Purpose of the Role

The Trustees are legally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Packed with Smiles. You will work collectively to ensure the charity remains financially viable, complies with Charity Commission regulations, and - most importantly - delivers the best possible support to children and families in our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Direction: Set the charity’s mission, vision, and long-term strategy.
  • Financial Oversight: Ensure the charity’s resources are managed responsibly and used only to further our mission.
  • Compliance: Ensure the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, and any other relevant legislation (e.g., GDPR, Safeguarding).
  • Risk Management: Identify and monitor potential risks to the charity’s reputation, finances, or operations.
  • Ambassadorship: Act as a champion for Packed with Smiles, using your networks to raise awareness and support.

 

 

Before you apply

We would like to appoint new trustees by July/August. In the first instance an informal chat will be held with our ccchair and then an interview in person.
