Women’s Consortium is looking for a marketing and communications volunteer to provide extra support with social media, content creation, newsletters and promotional materials for our community services.

What will you be doing?

This is an extra support role, not a full staff post. The volunteer will work alongside the team, with tasks agreed based on their skills, confidence and availability.

You may support with creating social media content, writing simple captions, helping with newsletters, updating website content, designing basic materials on Canva, supporting campaign ideas and helping us promote our services to local communities.

You may also support with Community Counselling promotion, helping us reach referral partners, local organisations and people who may benefit from the service. The original role includes content creation, social media, website updates, newsletters, marketing materials and community outreach activity.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with at least 3 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, content creation or social media
  • Good written English and ability to write clearly for different audiences
  • Confidence creating simple social media posts, captions or newsletters
  • Experience using Canva or similar design tools would be helpful
  • Basic understanding of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or X/Twitter
  • Ability to follow brand guidelines and keep messaging consistent
  • Good attention to detail and an organised approach
  • Understanding of accessibility, such as plain language, alt text or inclusive wording, would be useful
  • Interest in community work, mental health, inclusion or charity communications

This role may suit a communications volunteer, content creator, designer, retired communications professional, or someone looking to use their creative skills to support a community organisation.

What difference will you make?

This role will help Women’s Consortium share our services more clearly and reach more people across Birmingham and Solihull.

Good communication is important because many people may not know what support is available or how to access it. A marketing and communications volunteer will help us create simple, accessible and engaging content that explains our work and encourages people to connect with us.

Your support will also help us stay more consistent across social media, newsletters, website updates and campaign materials.

By volunteering in this role, you will help us raise awareness, improve visibility and make sure more people know where to turn for support.

Before you apply

Please include a brief note covering why you are interested in supporting Women’s Consortium, any content or social media work you have done before, and any tools you have used such as Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress or similar.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an informal conversation with the team.
