Women's Consortium

HR and Policy Officer (Volunteer)

Hybrid
1-15 hours total

Women’s Consortium is looking for a skilled HR and policy volunteer to provide extra support with recruitment admin, onboarding, staff records and policy updates as we continue to grow our community services.

What will you be doing?

Women’s Consortium is looking for a volunteer to support our HR and policy work behind the scenes.

This is an extra support role, not a full HR post. The volunteer will work alongside the Director and wider team, with tasks agreed based on their experience and availability.

You may support with recruitment admin, onboarding documents, DBS tracking, staff and volunteer records, training records, HR templates and policy reviews. You may also help us organise and update key policies so they are easy to access, current and well maintained.

The full HR and Policy Officer role includes recruitment, contracts, onboarding, DBS processing, policy development, staff records, training coordination and compliance. This volunteer role will focus on practical support in some of these areas where needed.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in HR, recruitment, administration, policy work or people operations
  • Good attention to detail and a well organised approach
  • Confidence handling confidential information responsibly
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint or similar systems
  • Understanding of staff records, onboarding or recruitment processes
  • Awareness of UK employment law or HR good practice would be helpful
  • Experience reviewing or formatting policies would be useful
  • Experience in a charity, community organisation or small organisation would be helpful, but is not essential

This role may suit an HR professional, HR administrator, policy officer, retired HR worker, CIPD student, or someone with practical HR and admin experience who wants to support a community organisation.

What difference will you make?

This role will help Women’s Consortium keep our HR and policy processes organised as our work grows.

As a small organisation, it is important that recruitment, onboarding, staff records, training information and policies are clear and up to date. A volunteer HR and Policy Support Officer will help us strengthen these systems and reduce pressure on the team.

Your support will help us manage people related information more confidently, stay organised with key documents, and make sure staff and volunteers have the right information in place.

This work may happen behind the scenes, but it makes a real difference. It helps us build a more consistent, professional and supportive organisation, so our team can focus on delivering services to communities across Birmingham and Solihull.

Before you apply

Please include a brief note covering why you are interested in supporting Women’s Consortium, your relevant experience, and any HR, recruitment or policy work you have done before.

It would also be helpful to know your usual availability and whether you have worked with charities, community organisations or small teams before.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an informal conversation with the team to discuss the role, availability and how your skills could best support the organisation.
