Filmmaker for Family Support Project
We’re looking for a videographer/content creator to support a new national Community Programme for families navigating EBSA and children’s mental health challenges. Help us create warm, authentic social media, training, parent story content and training resources. Please get in touch 💜
What will you be doing?
The role will involve filming and editing a range of digital content including social media videos, parent stories, training materials and ambassador content. The aim is to create warm, authentic and emotionally safe content that helps families feel supported, understood and connected.
Key responsibilities include:
• Filming short-form social media and promotional content
• Recording training sessions and digital learning materials
• Supporting the creation of parent and ambassador story videos
• Editing content suitable for online learning platforms and social channels
• Working collaboratively to develop a consistent visual style and tone for the programme
We are looking for someone who is creative, approachable and passionate about storytelling and social impact. Experience creating sensitive, people-centred content would be highly valued.
This is a pro bono opportunity within a growing national programme.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a creative, approachable and values-driven volunteer who is passionate about storytelling and using digital content to make a positive social impact. This role would suit someone who enjoys creating authentic, people-centred content and wants to use their skills to support families navigating emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and children’s mental health challenges.
Our ideal volunteer will have experience in filming and editing video content for digital platforms, social media or online learning. They should feel confident capturing a range of content styles, including short-form social media videos, interviews, training materials and community-focused storytelling. Experience using editing software and creating content suitable for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or online learning environments would be highly beneficial.
More importantly than technical expertise alone, we are looking for someone who can create content with warmth, sensitivity and emotional awareness. Many of the families engaging with this programme are experiencing stress, isolation and overwhelm, so it is important that the volunteer understands how to create content that feels calm, supportive and accessible. We are particularly interested in someone who values authenticity and can help people feel comfortable and confident when being filmed.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also important for this role. The volunteer may be filming parents, trainers and staff members, so we are looking for someone who is approachable, patient and able to build trust with a wide range of people. An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and respectful storytelling would also be valuable.
We would welcome volunteers from a range of backgrounds including videography, content creation, filmmaking, social media, digital marketing or media production. Experience working within the charity, education, wellbeing or mental health sectors would be helpful but is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone who genuinely connects with the purpose of the programme and wants to contribute to meaningful social impact.
The most important qualities for this role are creativity, empathy, reliability and a collaborative approach. We are looking for someone who is excited to help shape a new national programme from the early stages and who can work alongside us to develop a consistent and engaging visual style for the project.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing community-led initiative with the potential to positively impact families across the UK. The volunteer’s work will directly support awareness, engagement and access to support for parents who may otherwise feel alone in their experiences.
In return, the volunteer will gain experience contributing to a meaningful national project, opportunities to build their portfolio, visibility across the programme and networks, and the chance to be part of a supportive and purpose-driven team.
What difference will you make?
This role will play an important part in helping us build a new national Nessie Community Programme supporting families navigating emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and children’s mental health challenges.
We are developing a supportive, community-led programme designed to help parents feel less isolated and more empowered through accessible training, peer support and shared lived experience. Video and digital content will be central to helping us create a warm, welcoming and emotionally safe experience for families engaging with the programme online.
The volunteer’s contribution will help us create high-quality social media content, training videos, parent stories and content that brings the programme to life in an authentic and engaging way. Their support will directly help us reach more families, increase awareness of EBSA and mental health challenges, and encourage parents to access support earlier.
Many of the parents we hope to reach are experiencing significant stress, isolation and emotional overwhelm. Creating calm, accessible and relatable content can make a huge difference in helping families feel understood, connected and supported. Through storytelling and thoughtful content creation, this role will help parents see that they are not alone and that support is available.
The role will also help us strengthen the quality and professionalism of the programme as we prepare for national launch. By supporting the filming and editing of training materials and digital learning resources, the volunteer will help us create a more engaging and accessible learning experience for parents and ambassadors across the UK.
In addition, the volunteer’s work will support the growth and sustainability of the programme by helping us develop content for awareness campaigns, recruitment and community engagement. This will contribute to building a stronger network of parent ambassadors and increasing the programme’s reach and long-term impact.
As a not-for-profit organisation, access to creative and digital expertise at this stage of development is incredibly valuable. The volunteer’s support will allow us to focus more resources directly into supporting families while still creating professional and meaningful content.
Ultimately, this role will help us build connection, visibility and trust with the families we support. The content created through this opportunity has the potential to reach and positively impact parents across the UK, helping families feel more informed, supported and hopeful during incredibly challenging times.
Before you apply

We are particularly interested in authentic, people-centred content and are looking for someone who connects with the values and purpose of the programme as much as the technical side of the role.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and informal online conversations will be arranged with suitable applicants to discuss the role further, answer questions and explore how the opportunity could work around availability and interests.
We are keen to begin content creation and programme development over the coming weeks and hope to welcome a volunteer into the project as soon as possible. The project officially launches 12th September 2026.
We will aim to keep communication clear throughout the process and respond to all applicants where possible.
