Digital Fundraising & Comms Coordinator

Help4Homeless delivers £10 wellbeing packs to rough sleepers in Peterborough. We're a brand new, youth-led charity and we need a digital communications whizz to grow our online presence, tell our story, and help us raise the funds to reach more people.

What will you be doing?

Help4Homeless is a youth-led charity based in Peterborough, delivering £10 wellbeing packs to people sleeping rough in our community. Each pack contains essentials - warm socks, hygiene items, snacks, hand warmers, hot chocolate and more. Founded in 2025 by a 17-year-old who noticed a man sleeping under a bridge and decided to act, we're a small but passionate team making a real difference, one pack at a time.

We're looking for a Digital Fundraising & Communications Coordinator to help us grow our reach, raise more funds, and tell the stories behind our work. You'll work directly with our founder and management committee.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing our social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) and growing our following
  • Creating compelling content - posts, reels, stories - that brings our mission to life
  • Supporting and promoting our GoFundMe and any future fundraising campaigns
  • Helping us relaunch our newsletter when we're ready
  • Writing news updates, press releases and community stories
  • Identifying grant and funding opportunities appropriate for a new community group
  • Advising on our broader digital and fundraising strategy as we grow

This is a flexible, remote role - ideal for someone who wants to use their skills for good and is excited by being part of something from the very beginning. We're not looking for perfection; we're looking for passion, creativity, and someone who believes that age and size are no barrier to making change.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who is passionate about using their digital and communications skills to make a real difference in their community. You don't need to have worked in the homelessness sector before - what matters most is that you care, you're creative, and you're comfortable working with a small, enthusiastic team.

Our ideal volunteer will have:

  • Experience managing social media accounts, ideally for a charity, community group, or cause-driven organisation - though we're open to candidates from commercial backgrounds who want to transition their skills into the voluntary sector
  • Strong writing ability - you can craft a caption, a newsletter, and a press release with equal confidence
  • Some experience with digital fundraising, crowdfunding platforms, or donor communications
  • A good eye for visual content - you don't need to be a designer, but you should understand what makes a post stop someone mid-scroll
  • The ability to work independently and take initiative - we're a small team and we'll trust you to run with things
  • Enthusiasm for our mission and genuine empathy for people experiencing homelessness

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Experience identifying and writing grant applications or funding bids
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp)
  • Knowledge of analytics tools to help us understand what's working
  • Experience supporting or advising an early-stage charity or community group

Most importantly, we want someone who is excited by being part of something from the ground up. Help4Homeless was founded by a 17-year-old with a big heart and a clear vision. We're not a polished, established institution - we're a grassroots team that moves quickly, cares deeply, and is learning as we go. If that energises you rather than puts you off, you'll fit right in.

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, ages and experience levels. If you meet most of the criteria but not all, please don't let that stop you from getting in touch.

What difference will you make?

Help4Homeless is at a pivotal moment. We've just added our first person to our waitlist - a Peterborough resident experiencing homelessness who will receive one of our packs. It's a small milestone, but a deeply meaningful one, and it's the beginning of something we believe can grow significantly.

Right now, our ability to reach more people depends almost entirely on our ability to raise awareness and funds online. Every £10 donated funds one complete pack for one real person. But to raise those funds, people need to know we exist - and that's where this role becomes critical.

A skilled Digital Fundraising & Communications Coordinator will help us:

  • Grow our donor base and increase the number of packs we can deliver each month
  • Build a recognisable, trusted brand in the Peterborough community and beyond
  • Tell the human stories behind our work in a way that moves people to act
  • Develop a sustainable communications and fundraising approach that will serve us as we formalise and grow

As a brand new, informal community group run by young volunteers, we don't have a marketing budget or a communications team. Your expertise will directly shape how we present ourselves to donors, supporters, and the wider public. The impact is immediate and tangible - more visibility means more donations, and more donations means more packs in the hands of people who need them most.

You'll also be joining at a genuinely exciting time. Help4Homeless was founded by a 17-year-old who saw a problem and decided to do something about it. That spirit runs through everything we do. If you want to be part of a grassroots mission that's just finding its feet, this is it.

Before you apply

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Help4Homeless! Here's what to expect:

Please apply via Reach with your CV and/or LinkedIn profile. If you have a portfolio of relevant work - social media accounts you've managed, fundraising campaigns you've supported, content you've created - we'd love to see it.

In your message to us, please tell us briefly:

  • Why Help4Homeless appeals to you
  • Which aspect of this role you're most excited about
  • Any relevant experience you'd like to highlight

We'll review applications on a rolling basis and aim to get back to everyone within two weeks. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal video call with our founder, Tom. There's no formal interview panel - just a relaxed conversation to see if we're a good fit for each other.

We're a friendly, informal team and we want this to feel approachable. If you have any questions before applying, don't hesitate to reach out.
