Deputy Chair for Youth Charity
Help shape the future of a growing North West youth charity. Change The Youth NW is seeking a Deputy Chair to support our Chair of Trustees, strengthen governance and help us expand opportunities for children, young people and families.
What will you be doing?
Change The Youth NW is entering an exciting stage of growth as we continue developing our support for children, young people and families across the North West.
Having established strong foundations as a registered charity, we are now looking to strengthen our trustee board with additional skills, experience and leadership.
We are seeking a Deputy Chair of Trustees who can work closely with our Chair of Trustees and wider board to help guide the charity through its next stage of development.
Our ambition is to build a diverse, skills-based board that provides strong governance, strategic direction and support as we grow our services, develop partnerships and reach more young people across the region.
The Deputy Chair will play a key role in:
- supporting effective board leadership and development
- providing guidance and constructive challenge
- helping strengthen governance, planning and decision-making
- supporting long-term strategy and sustainability
- chairing meetings when required
- helping trustees work effectively as a team
This is an opportunity to join a passionate grassroots charity at an important point in its journey. You will have the chance to influence how the organisation develops, support its growth and help build the foundations needed for long-term impact.
The role is ideal for someone who wants to use their experience to make a practical difference while helping a growing charity become stronger, more sustainable and better equipped to support future generations.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Deputy Chair who is passionate about creating opportunities for children, young people and communities, and who wants to play an active role in helping a growing North West charity develop.
Our ideal trustee will bring leadership experience and the ability to provide support, guidance and constructive challenge as we continue strengthening Change The Youth NW.
We are particularly interested in someone with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- senior leadership or board-level experience
- charity governance and trustee experience
- strategic planning and organisational development
- managing growth or change within an organisation
- developing partnerships and relationships
- improving systems, processes and ways of working
- supporting good decision-making and risk management
Previous charity sector experience would be valuable, but we also welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills gained through business, public services, education or community leadership.
We are looking for someone who can be a trusted advisor to the Chair of Trustees while also supporting the wider board to work effectively.
The right person will be:
- a strategic thinker who can see the bigger picture
- supportive but confident providing challenge
- collaborative and able to bring people together
- committed to equality, inclusion and improving opportunities
- passionate about helping young people reach their potential
We particularly welcome trustees who bring different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences. We want our board to reflect the communities we support and believe diverse voices help us make better decisions.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who believes in our mission and wants to help Change The Youth NW build a sustainable future for children, young people and families across the North West.
What difference will you make?
The Deputy Chair will play an important role in helping Change The Youth NW strengthen its leadership, governance and long-term sustainability.
Your support will help us improve decision-making, develop our trustee board and shape our future strategy while keeping young people and families at the centre of everything we do.
By providing leadership, experience and an independent perspective, you will help ensure our ideas become achievable plans and our growth happens responsibly.
This role will directly support our ability to develop new projects, build partnerships, secure opportunities and increase the number of children, young people and families we can reach across the North West.
Most importantly, your contribution will help create a stronger charity that continues giving young people the confidence, support and opportunities they need to thrive.
Before you apply
Thank you for your interest in supporting Change The Youth NW.
We would love to hear about your experience, what interests you about our mission and how you feel you could support the charity during its next stage of development.
Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Suitable applicants will be invited for an informal conversation with the Chair of Trustees to discuss the charity, the role and how your skills and experience could contribute to our future plans.
Following this, there may be an opportunity to meet other trustees before appointment.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive trustee board and welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
