Company Secretary for youth club charity in South East London

What will you be doing?

Grove Park Youth Club Building Preservation Trust Ltd are seeking a voluntary company secretary to assist the board with their Trust governance and planning.  GPYC BPT Ltd (the Trust) is a registered UK Charity that was set up to save a purpose built youth club in Lewisham, London SE12 form demolition.  After a successful four year campaign, the Trust reopened the facility in July 2021 and it now delivers youth services five evenings per week.  Its offers are all free of charge for its users and it operates in an area with high indices of multiple deprivation. The Trust consists of part time paid directors and volunteers alike and is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, facility management of the building, direct delivery of youth services and the management of all stakeholders who use the space.  The Trust requires a company secretary to assist with the organisation of meetings, the AGM, policies and this role could develop into wider support with fund raising, report writing and stakeholder management support.

What are we looking for?

Corporate governance, charity governance, company secretary, people skills, communication skills, word, excel.  You should be able to communicate well with a variety of directors at board level and be very organised and efficient.  A keen eye for detail regarding meetings, schedules, reporting and statutory requirements is required.  Some campaigning, fund raising or report writing skills would also be desirable.

What difference will you make?

Our success at GPYC has been extraordinary in the face of the overall widespread closure of youth services across the UK.  At a time when young people require more support than ever, youth services have faced dramatic cuts and losses.  Our story runs opposite to this.  Through tenacious and determined hard work with much grass roots voluntary support our Trust saved this community space and now operates highly popular youth services for children and young people. You will be part of a governance team that is essential to the continued success of this charity over the coming years and the benefit it delivers to the local community. Your impact will be mostly delivered in supporting the directors, bringing a high standard of governance and professionalism supporting the multiple roles required of the Trust.
