Communications and Impact Support
Could you spare a few hours a month to help us share the story of Embracing Age? We are looking for an organised, warm volunteer to support our impact and communications work, helping us reach more people and show the difference we make to social isolated, lonely older people in care homes
What will you be doing?
Sarah is our Impact and Communications Manager and she does a brilliant job of telling the story of Embracing Age, keeping our supporters engaged, and making sure we can demonstrate the difference we make to older people living in care homes. But like everyone in our small team, she could do with an extra pair of hands.
That is where you come in.
You will be working directly with Sarah on a range of communications and impact tasks that keep our charity running well and our supporters feeling valued. This is not a role where you will be filing things away in a corner. You will be genuinely contributing to work that matters.
Here is what you will be doing:
Supporting the production and distribution of our regular prayer letter, which goes out to hundreds of supporters who care deeply about our work.
Helping to gather and organise impact stories and volunteer experiences that Sarah uses in reports, funding applications and communications.
Writing personalised thank you cards to our volunteers and donors as part of how we look after the people who make our work possible.
Assisting with the preparation of supporter newsletters and donor communications.
Providing administrative support for our Full of Life community fair and other events throughout the year.
Helping with ad hoc mailing and postage tasks as they arise.
Processing Gift Aid forms accurately and in a timely manner, which makes a real financial difference to us as a small charity.
Supporting at in-person events on an occasional basis if you would like to get more involved.
Most of this work can be done remotely and flexibly around your own commitments. We are not going to put pressure on you or pile things on at the last minute. We just need someone reliable who will turn up consistently and take ownership of the tasks they agree to do.
If you are someone who enjoys being organised, communicates warmly, and wants your time to count for something real, we would love to hear from you.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced communications or marketing professional to support our Impact and Communications Manager at Embracing Age, a volunteer-led befriending charity helping older people in care homes across southern England feel valued, connected and less alone.
We are looking for someone with at least three years of professional experience in communications, marketing, PR or a related field. You will bring genuine expertise that helps Sarah develop our communications approach, tell our impact story more compellingly, and strengthen how we engage with supporters and donors.
Specifically we would love you to bring:
Proven experience in communications, marketing or PR at a professional level.
The ability to write warmly and compellingly for a range of audiences, from supporters and volunteers to funders and partners.
Experience of supporter or donor communications, newsletters, or stewardship campaigns.
An understanding of how to gather and present impact evidence in a way that resonates with different audiences.
Confidence working independently and managing your own workload remotely.
A genuine care for older people and motivation to give your professional skills to something that really matters.
Experience of the charity sector would be an advantage but is not essential. We are very happy to provide context and background so you can hit the ground running.
We warmly encourage applications from people from Black and Asian communities, younger professionals, and anyone who wants to use their expertise to make a real difference.
If you are not sure whether you are the right fit, please just get in touch. We would much rather have a conversation than miss out on the right person.
What difference will you make?
We are a small team doing big things, and every pair of hands genuinely counts.
Think about what it means to be an older person living in a care home. For many of the people we serve, days can pass without a single meaningful conversation. No one asking how they are. No one remembering their name. Our volunteers change that, one visit at a time, sitting with someone, listening to their stories, and making them feel that they still matter.
But none of that happens without the work that goes on behind the scenes.
When Sarah has support with the practical and administrative side of her communications and impact work, she can focus on the things that only she can do, developing our story, building relationships with funders, and making sure the world knows what Embracing Age is achieving for some of the most isolated people in our communities.
When our prayer letter goes out on time, supporters feel close to our work and give more generously. When thank you cards land on doorsteps, volunteers feel genuinely appreciated and stay with us longer. When our impact stories are gathered and organised, Sarah can tell them compellingly to the people who need to hear them. All of that has a direct effect on our ability to reach more older people who are sitting alone wondering if anyone still cares.
Gift Aid is another area where your help will make a tangible financial difference. For a small charity like ours, every pound we can claim goes straight back into putting volunteers through doors and into the lives of people who need them.
Put simply, when you support our impact and communications you are not just helping one person. You are helping us reach further, communicate better, and remain sustainable as we grow.
Your contribution will be felt far beyond the hours you put in. And you will be able to see it, in the letters that go out, the thank you cards that make someone's day, and the impact reports that help us keep going
