Comms Volunteer

What will you be doing?

Our charity supports a network of climate and nature groups in our town as well as running our own projects. We are looking with experience or a student or who is self taught and passionate. You might be a marketing expert, or developing a careers in comms. We'd love you to help us with our goal to engage local residents in climate action.

We would like the volunteer to help with:

• Improve our branding and create a plan to raise our charity's profile.
• Help us plan and articulate our goals to different audiences.
• Help us to write content for emails and newsletters and plan how we use these tools to strengthen our identity, motivate our supporters and communicate with our members.
• Updating our website and planning social media posts or campaigns
• (If we have not filled our Newsletter Content Creator volunteer role - or work with this volunteer if they have been recruited) Plan and write our Mailchimp newsletters which are sent to over 400 local people. Liaising with local climate and nature community groups who contribute regularly and encouraging new contributions.
• Work with events volunteers to create visually appealing display which can be taken to local events.
• Attend bi-monthly Core Group meetings. Attend event organising meetings when necessary.

You will be working with a small core group who will provide an overview of our existing communication and marketing materials, as well as our very basic brand guidelines (which we are happy to have suggestions to improve)  

We're a small charity so if you are good at working independently. We support each other and volunteer wellbeing is important to us. 

What are we looking for?

• Great at planning and thinking strategically
• Well organised and realistic about what can be achieved
• Able to explain plans clearly to others
• Able to ask questions that help you understand the needs of our group / members / supporters
• Experience using Mailchimp and Wix or willingness to learn
• Able to ask key questions to enable us to clarify requirements
• Appreciate the resource constraints of a small charity and is able to work with these.
• Open to feedback

What difference will you make?

We know that communication is key and someone reading our website, social media post or newsletter could be a first step in them taking action on climate change either in their personal life or in the community. Your contribution will help widen the reach of the charity and strengthen our town's response to climate change.
