Transition Stroud was established in 2009 as a network for people and groups within the Stroud area who are working on transition towards a locally-based, low carbon lifestyle. It is part of the international Transition Towns movement which formed in 2007 and now has more than 1000 initiatives worldwide.
The work of Transition Stroud is overseen by a Council consisting of voluntary Directors with support given by the part-time roles of co-ordinator and social media manager.
Activities are carried out through Action Groups which are self-organised and supported by the Council. Groups include Edible Stroud, Textiles, Repair Cafe, and Carbon Neutral Mapping, Groups share, inform and support members in ways to build a more sustainable future.
We also facilitate the creation of local climate action networks (CANs) across Stroud District and convene a district-wide forum to share experiences and learning.
