Surrey Gardens Trust
Our objectives
The Surrey Gardens Trust, as an educational charity, aims to raise awareness of and to protect Surrey's rich heritage of outstanding historic parks, gardens and designed landscapes. Our members are an enthusiastic, friendly group of like-minded people interested in learning about this heritage and its conservation as well as enjoying days out in beautiful gardens and landscapes often not open to the public. We are committed to helping children learn about the environment through improvements to school grounds. We also run a 'Gateway' project giving disadvantaged people access to the county's beautiful gardens.
Our activities
We have an active Research and Recording Group involved in investigating important sites and researching their history. Members of the group also undertake conservation casework and monitor consultations on planning applications across Surrey which may impact on a historic garden. The Trust organises a year-round programme of lectures, study days and garden visits. These events seek not only to educate members about aspects of garden history, design and horticulture but also aim to highlight and encourage appreciation of significant sites while sharing the hidden treasures of many beautiful gardens and landscapes often not open to the public. We provide annual awards to primary and infant schools to help fund improvements to their grounds and other gardening activities.
