Objectives

Established and built 10 years ago to meet the need for additional comprehensive secondary school places in Islington, SMMA has grown into a very successful over subscribed academy.

Around 1,300 students attend the school which consist of a one form entry Primary school, a 7 form entry Secondary school and a Sixth Form. Young people mainly live in the borough of Islington with a large percentage on FSM (free school meals, as measured by parents/carers' financial means).

Strong leadership and dedicated teachers are key to accomplishing the mission of SMMA "to nurture young people to become high achievers and to find their vocation in a global society".

Besides the academic curriculum,SMMA offers an enrichment program of extra curricular activities, offering opportunities to young people who wouldn't be able to access them otherwise.

Activities

Teaching at SMMA follows excellent standards. The Board of governors delegates some of its responsibilities to Committees. For instance, the Curriculum and Standards Committee meets regularly with the Head Teacher, who is accountable to the Board for students' achievements.

The Finance, Personnel and Premises Committee ensure that the Academy remains financially sustainable in years to come.

In spite of the funding pressures most schools are facing, SMMA has managed to maintain the wealth of its curriculum and the high level of standards expected from all staff employed by the Academy.

To continue to serve young people and their families, SMMA must now establish a new fundraising strategy including both capital and income.
