Objectives

Spirit of Christmas is a registered charity that runs 3 projects:-

  • Family Christmas parties - running in Selby, Carcroft and York, These are aimed at low income familes and caters for around 500 children via 4 parties (not including adults). Children get entertained for 2 hours, receive a snack box, visit Santa and receive a personalised present and also receive photo of visit to Santas grotto
  • Christmas shop (Toy bank) - where we invite families living in poverty to a shop where they can select and wrap a present for each child they have - caters for 400-450 children.
  • Banana Box Toy Project - our all year project where we provide low income families with boxes of educational and play toys. We include stationery / notebooks, age appropriate book, game and puzzle in each pack to improve education and strengthen families. We will cater for 400 - 500 children per annum
  • Neurodiversity Stay and Play sessions that run once a month for children under 11 years of age who live with neurodiversity.

We allow children access to quality events that their families would not normally be able to afford to go to. Our christmas events reduces pressure on families and may prevent some families from using loan sharks.

By providing educational resources we allow children to be able to do homeowrk using own resources and may also allow schools / teachers to use their limited resources in other school activities.

Activities

  • Work with schools, local foodbank and some social services to ensure that our events / resources reach our target audience.
  • Repurpose toys and banana boxes thus reducing items going to landfill
  • Provide opportunities for families to come together and socialise at the events we run thus strengthening communities
  • Provide volunteering opportunities
