Objectives

Speakers for Schools is a UK-wide education charity that is dedicated to helping state secondary school students engage with eminent, leading figures across all fields and sectors, free of charge. Since our 2011 launch, we have helped facilitate over 3,850 school talks reaching nearly half a million students across the UK with a network of 1,100 top figures donating their time each year for conversations that aim to broaden students' horizons.

In 2017 we launched the S4SNextGen website portal to build on our work by giving our state schools better access to esteemed firms and organisations who can offer invaluable work experience placements for the students that need it the most. Speakers for Schools was founded by the journalist Robert Peston (ITV, formerly BBC) and is funded in full by the Law Family Charitable Foundation.

Activities

  • Helping facilitate connections between state secondary schools access and engagements from top figures for free talks
  • Working with PAs and offices to ensure leading figures find time in the diary to give their time each year
  • Run a portal to advertise esteemed work experience opportunities to state school students
  • Help sign-post other free opportunities to state schools through our newsletters and website
  • Advise speakers and their organisations on how to get more out of their engagements with state schools and working with students.
