Objectives

Our Mission is to:

improve quality of life, addressing local needs and issues through developing and enabling a vigorous and diverse voluntary sector.”

In this way, our dedicated team of  staff and wonderful volunteers support people to stay physically and socially active, improve wellbeing and live independently for longer.

We recognise that inequalities exist and will therefore give priority to working with individuals, groups or communities whose full participation in society is limited by disadvantage and social exclusion.

The way we work is driven by the following values:

  • A belief in equality of opportunity and social justice for all
  • A belief in the right of individuals to work together to participate in decision-making and local action
  • A belief in the importance of building the capacity of voluntary and community groups, so that they are democratic and accountable
  • A belief in the need for the voluntary and community sector to work as equal partners with others, to bring about the development and regeneration of their communities
  • A belief in being open and accountable in all our working relationships with all of our partners

Activities

Volunteering

We run an accredited volunteer centre in both Rushcliffe and Broxtowe, as well as a brokerage service for the public, we run a supported volunteer programme. We help anyone who has additional needs to access volunteering.

We support community and voluntary groups in Rushcliffe and Broxtowe, from advice centres and lunch clubs to wildlife trusts and scout groups. We're here to help and inspire groups and organisations to get started and run professionally. We offer expert advice and assistance with training, fundraising and volunteering, as well as giving encouragement and moral support. Because we believe in what these groups stand for, we endeavour to represent their views to those who make decisions affecting their work.

Voluntary Transport and Transport +

Our Voluntary Transport Schemes in Rushcliffe and Gedling are the answer.

Every day of the week our transport organisers and volunteer drivers help people to stay independent, participate in their communities and access vital services.

Our drivers use their own cars to help people get to where they need to be – the shops, doctors and dentists, hairdressers, visiting friends and other social activities.

The ‘door to door’ one-to-one service helps hundreds with a range of needs – older people in poor health, people with physical and learning disabilities, unemployed people and those who don’t have access to public transport.

In this way, we provide choice, social contact and personal freedom for people, who can be confident that our service is reliable and safe.

We know through our Voluntary Transport Schemes that some people need more than just a lift.

Many of our drivers already help passengers with putting away shopping, making a hot drink, or checking that keys are where they should be.

We’ve launched Transport Plus to address that growing need – a brand new service developed in response to what our volunteers and community have told us.

Transport Plus offers a safe, caring and reliable companion and transport service, with enough time built in for our volunteers to provide the extra support required.

They can help with a range of activities, from shopping and social events to accompanying you to a doctor’s appointment, where sometimes a friendly face and a little extra support can make a big difference.

In this way, we’re strengthening our efforts to reduce social isolation and keep people active.

South Notts Befriending

Our telephone befriending service began because we wanted to keep vulnerable people safe, reassured and socially connected during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’s quickly grown to become a precious lifeline for many who would otherwise be lonely and isolated across south Nottinghamshire.

Our friendly volunteers can call, visit with you or meet with you once or twice a week to have a friendly chat, check on your welfare, offer advice and company and ensure that you have what you need.
