Our objectives
We believe in 'People Helping People'.
Dual regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), Plane Saver was founded in 1993 by a group of British Airways Engineers. They had a passion to provide a range of ethical saving schemes and affordable loans to their colleagues.
Since then, Plane Saver has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in the UK. In 2023, we were proud to be named Best Credit Union (South) at the Consumer Credit Awards and received a Silver Award from the Armed Forces Covenant.
While we embrace modern technology, our focus remains on delivering a human touch grounded in the core values of integrity, humanity and diversity. We aim to be a trusted partner for our members throughout life’s journey, whatever challenges they may face — “once a member, always a member”.
Our philosophy is simple: together, we can do money better.
Membership has grown beyond our original base in aviation. In 2010, we extended membership to additional airlines and transportation-sector employers such as Air Canada, Air Tanker, American Airlines, Avios and United Airlines.
In 2015, with support from the Ministry of Defence, we began offering services to HM Armed Forces personnel and veterans. More recently, we have welcomed members from healthcare, engineering, distribution/logistics and retail sectors as we continue to build new payroll partnerships.
In 2023 we merged with Harlowsave Credit Union to welcome members from communities around Harlow, Essex. A further merger, with Money Matters Credit Union, is underway to bring in adjacent communities near Luton.
Plane Saver now serves over 33,000 members and has lent more than £110 million to those members.
Our activities
We are committed to supporting members throughout life’s ups and downs, from providing access to financial education and consolidating debts into one easy monthly payment to offering affordable loans to keep people out of the clutches of high-cost lenders. We are here to help, whatever the circumstances. We believe everyone should have access to affordable finance regardless of their financial situation. Everyone saves with us, even borrowers, helping create a nation of savers and increase financial resilience.
We know that being less stressed about money gives members more time to be able to do the things they most enjoy in life and is better for their overall emotional wellbeing.
