Our objectives

London Catalyst is an independent grant-making charity. Formerly known as the ‘Metropolitan Hospital-Sunday Fund’, it was established in 1873 when the Lord Mayor invited faith and hospital leaders to a meeting at the Mansion House. Appalled by the widespread poverty and ill-health in London, they agreed that each year, in places of worship, a collection should be made to assist the 'sick and poor’. Through the appeal we continue to raise funds for our hardship grants although our main source of income is from investments.

Our activities

We are an independent grant-maker and provide grants to front-line charitable organisations to assist their work and improve people’s lives in the poorest areas of London. We also operate a hardship fund that gives emergency financial support to thousands of destitute people every.
