Objectives

Home-Start Wakefield & District supports local families with children under 12 years old. We support families experiencing difficulties in order to help build their confidence and skills and empowering them to become the best parents they can be.

Our volunteers visit families once a week and support them in whichever way they need. This could be emotional support for bereaved families, an extra pair of hands for single parents, helping with routines and behaviour strategies or supporting a disabled parent with their children. Our families come from all backgrounds and all their circumstances are different, we aim to offer support to meet their needs and get them to a place where they no longer need our help.

Activities

Our volunteers support families in their homes and in some cases over the phone, being that shoulder to lean on in times of need, offering advice, a listening ear and information about other services. We also offer family groups across the district which our volunteers can help out with, or they can support the family they are linked with to attend the groups.

In the half term holidays, we are part of Wakefield's Happy Healthy Holidays and offer free of charge activity days to families who are eligible for Means Tested Free School Meals. Within this, families can attend our activities which include dancing, games and crafting and all attendees are given a free picnic lunch.
