Objectives

Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking and over-whelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone. That is why Home-Start is ready to support families through their toughest times. Our services provide support, friendship and practical help to parents, through home-visiting and a range of parent and child groups. Our support is confidential, compassionate and non-judgemental.

With a core team of staff and our caring volunteers, we are able to provide support and expertise when families need it most.

Activities

We work directly with families who have children in the home under the age of five. Our volunteers are fully trained and have experience of caring for children, often through being parents themselves. They are carefully matched with families and visit for up to two hours a week to provide emotional and practical support as needed. They work alongside parents to help them cope with the stresses and strains of life and make sure they have the skills, confidence and strength they need to nurture their children. Support is completely individual to a family's unique needs.

Normally we visit families regularly at home, run groups and offer baby massage. Throughout COVID-19, we have continued to work with families, adapting our support to the circumstances. Our groups are welcoming, inclusive and fun.
