Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre is an independent charity that provides emotional and practical support to survivors of rape, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse regardless of gender.
We believe that every person should be free from sexual violence but in the meantime support GRASAC clients to understand and manage the effects of their experiences of sexual violence - to empower and support them - and to show kindness. We listen, understand, believe, and support all survivors of sexual abuse, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality and other discriminatory factors.
We are here for individual’s resident in Gloucestershire who have been affected by rape, sexual assault, or abuse at any time in their lives. We are committed to support, respect and empower survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
We are looking for women who have an interest in all issues raised and affecting the sector. Knowledge of public affairs and corporate social responsibility, and/or fundraising would also be an asset. We welcome applications from women of all ages that represent the community in which we live and serve. This position is unpaid, but reasonable travel expenses will be covered.
We offer services both from our centre on the outskirts of Gloucester area and in safe and convenient locations in the community. Our services are generally 1:1 sessions either offering therapeutic support or advocacy. We also run group sessions during the day and in the evenings.
Emotional / Therapeutic Support - offers individuals the space, and time, to talk through their thoughts, feelings, and options with a specialist support worker. GRASAC offers up to 20 sessions of 1:1 support to individuals aged 13+.
ISVA support - Independent Sexual Violence Advisors - ISVAs offer a free and confidential specialist service providing practical help and emotional support to anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted at any time in their lives. ISVAs support and help victims decide if they wish to report to the police, giving information about the legal process and the individual’s rights. They will also liaise with the police and prosecution service, and advocate on the individual’s behalf and then support the client in court, as well as identify other needs that require other support service input. GRASAC supports people of all ages.
Group sessions - we run an increasing number of group sessions. For victims/survivors to meet others who have gone through similar experiences can be extremely supportive. GRASAC’s group activities programme for survivors gives individuals the chance to meet, empower and be supported and support each other.
GRASAC provides training to schools, universities, workplaces and partner agencies in consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, disclosure training etc.
