Objectives

The Foundation for Young Musicians (FYM) is a charity established in 1990 with the sole aim to raise funds for the Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) London. To date FYM has raised over £9million to support CYM.

CYM enables young people with real musical promise to reach their full potential, providing advanced musical experiences to over 1200 talented young Londoners each year. Additionally, CYM manages flagship advanced ensembles the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) and the London Youth Wind Band (LYWB). CYM is now a division of the Guildhall School and the successful model has been expanded to Norwich, Peterborough, Taunton and Saffron Walden.

FYM raises funds through charitable Trusts and Foundations and individual donors, so that CYM can offer talented London school children first-class musical training and education irrespective of ability to pay. Half of CYM’s students would not be able to benefit from this tuition without financial assistance.

‘The FYM bursary means a lot to me. It helped me stretch my musical aptitude and without it I would not have been able to attend CYMCYM student and composer of the award-winning ‘The Train Journey’

Activities

Each year, we need to raise £100,000 to support young people in London, enabling them to attend CYM. We rely on generous donations from Trusts & Foundations, individuals and businesses.
