Families Against Violence (FAV) CIO operates within the inner cities of Manchester (South) The charity supports disadvantaged young men and fathers through a range of targeted services and activities. The areas we work in are listed within the top 10% suffering the highest levels of poverty and deprivation within the UK .The social issues stemming from this increases the potential of young people to making poor/ impulsive decisions.
FAV supports young males with diversionary services, such as mentoring, sports, access to education, training, careers advice. FAV supports up to 80 young men per week through a successful football and mentoring project, and has helped changed the lifepath of many. The weekly sessions are a life saver for these young people, as they would be on the streets and at risk, if they did not have the support from the service.
FAV also helps fathers with a range of self help groups, mainly aimed at supporting and empowering the service users to improve either their communities, families, family relationships. Those who want to help other young men and put back into the community are trained as mentors to support the younger males.
Without FAV these young men are at risk of falling in to being on streets and potential of carrying risky behaviour. The young people we work with are of great potential and FAV helps them realise this and to build and develop aspirations and goals.
