Enable Glasgow is a long established Scottish charity which arose from the Scottish Society for Mentally Handicapped Children founded in the 1950’s. Enable supports adults with a learning disability who live in Glasgow, by a range of methods: • Supported residential care at two locations in Glasgow • Ad hoc clubs and activities at several sites and times • Campaigning and advocacy • Sheltered employment in a supported workshop. These services all contribute to the greater integration of learning disabled with society by empowering them to participate in community and economic life.

Fortune Works (FW)is the Social Enterprise arm of Enable Glasgow providing meaningful opportunities for people with a Learning Disability within Glasgow and surrounding areas. The service combines accessible social and enterprising activities and offers individualized support for people to make a positive contribution to their community. FW offers a full holistic service to support adults with a learning disability. Service users, currently numbering 120, are supported to create and identify their own goals, both personally and work-based during their five day, full time attendance.

Service users are supported by 24 Full time Equivalent staff and a number of Volunteers who enhance the delivery of the recreational aspects of FW’s provision, such as a camera club and walking group. FWs aim is to offer genuine working practices and ethics in a safe environment. Service users, with the support and guidance of a dedicated and experienced staff team, learn and develop skills which can lead to other opportunities including further educational studies, volunteering, or employment. The range of work can vary from light industrial work, to packaging through making arts & crafts items.. This all takes place within a context of support tailored to the needs of the individual. All revenue generated being reinvested back into FW so that it remains a fresh innovative service.
