Objectives

Our mission is to transform the impact of social change organisations through data science capacity building, for the benefit of the people of the UK and other parts of the world by:
- Changing attitudes: Increase understanding of and trust in data science within the social sector, by showing what's possible and how data can be used responsibly
- Providing a safe space to test ideas: Working with organisations to explore what might help them, and introducing them to new approaches and tools
- Supporting staff: wMaking sure that data experts in the social sector have access to peer support networks, and working to ensure the number of data scientists in social change organisations continues to grow

Activities

DataKind UK’s activities range from the very light touch - answering questions and giving advice - to intense, year-long engagements with volunteers embedded in charities. We also work to develop the data for good ecosystem in the UK and globally.

We have partnered with charities large and small across a wide range of issue areas, from the Prince’s Trust and Macmillan through to local food banks and hospices. We carefully select charity partners based on their organisational data maturity, the project feasibility and likely impact. We spend a significant amount of time and energy scoping projects and understanding an organisation’s needs ahead of an engagement, to maximise the likelihood that a project leads to sustainable change.
