Citizens Advice Wigan Borough
Our objectives
Citizens Advice Wigan Borough (CAWB) provides free, independent, impartial and confidential advice and information to anyone, regardless of age, race, sex, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability or religious belief.
Our vision is that: People can access our service easily and have the knowledge and confidence they need to find a way forward, whatever the problem.
What we will do to achieve this is set out in our mission statement which is: To support our communities health and wellbeing through the provision of quality advice which empowers people to overcome their problems, and to speak up for those who are treated unjustly, championing equal, diverse and inclusive policy and practice.
Our team of paid and voluntary staff are the heart of CAWB. Without them, we could not provide the services we do. The difference they make to people’s lives isn’t just financial, it’s also emotional. We know this because they tell us that they can finally sleep or open the post without worry, and because we gather information about the type and amount of debts we deal with, the payments we negotiate with creditors, and the income we help people gain as a result of them understanding their entitlement to benefits and grants.
Our activities
Citizens Advice Wigan Borough (CAWB) provides local people with advice and support on matters such as welfare benefits, debt, energy housing and employment. In the financial year ending March 2023 we supported nearly 12,000 unique clients with over 42,000 issues, helping our clients gain or maintain income equating to almost £5.5 million (based on an annualised equivalent).
In addition our advisers are active in supporting Citizens Advice Research and Campaigning activities, actively identifying and reporting matters of client injustice. We regularly communicate with residents on the issues and policies which matter to them and undertake purposeful campaigning action to secure good outcomes for the people in our communities.
